"Scent of a woman" is een film die me steeds is bijgebleven. Levenswijsheden van een egoïst die, desondanks zijn klootzak-gehalte, de ene memorabele quote na de andere afratelt. Een klare "Fuck the system" zonder anarchie of hippiegevoelens te prediken. De rode draad is één van mijn belangrijkste levensmoto's en dat is onze drang tot het bewust prikkelen van onze zintuigen. Hoofdpersonage Frank Slade is blind en concentreert zich daarom nog meer op de prikkels van resterende zintuigen: lekker eten, dansbewegingen voelen en boven alles: de geur van een mooie vrouw. Als blinde ziet hij des te meer waar maatschappelijke afstompingen en zintuiglijke verlammingen optreden en daar zet hij zich met Al-Pacino-esque energie tegen af. Een held!

De samples uit deze film bevestigden voor mij het wakker schudden van de massa, waarin we willekeurig (iniminimanimo) worden uitgekozen indien we onszelf laten verlammen door het systeem en onze individualiteit inruilen voor een stereotiep.
